Sorry that it's been a while since I've updated! I'm just having too much fun and have been pretty busy the past week. Where should I start hmm.. Okay so last weekend Kelsie and I were the only volunteers at the orphanage and it was pretty boring other than playing with the kids we basically just got lots of rest for the week. We did have a super good meal, rice ball with this spicy soup it is delicious! On monday we had a meeting with Paul (the head guy of the orphanage) because he hasn't made an effort to communicate with us other then a hello here or there. Stephano brought up the issue of safety because a few volunteers here have had a bunch of money stolen from their rooms. We now have another lock on our door that only we have the keys to so everyone feels a lot more comfortable with leaving valuable things in their rooms. Desi brought up my issue as well as Kelsies about not having any instruction or timetable and having to fend for ourselves. Paul got all defensive like we were attacking him but it's because the way he runs the orphanage sucks and I wouldn't recommend this orphanage to anyone.. the one next door is a lot more organized. The meeting didn't accomplish that much but he brought me back to Class 2 which I went to on the first day and told the teacher she wasn't telling me what to do and etc. I could tell she didn't need my help and didn't want me there she is pretty mean. So I told him I would go back to Class 4, which is primary 4. The teacher is really nice.. it is the class I taught math and science to last week. She told me to come back tomorrow morning. So I have taught math and science to them this week, I taught greater than and less than in math and about animals and things that live on plants in science. Most of the kids completely understand my assignment that I gave them in math and it felt super good to know that I was the one that taught it to them. Science on the other hand may take awhile because they don't have very big attention spans when it comes to listening. I help them with their homework as well. I love the kids in my class, this one girl Richitka has the best personality, she doesn't get things right away so I spend a little bit more time with her. Another girl Dina is very smart, same with a boy named Peter. I have a little troublemaker in my class named Oliver but I absolutely love them all. We played uno with a few of the kids the other day, they love it. Kelsie just got a new class which she will probably start teaching tomorrow or monday because the kindergartens do not listen and are really hard to control. My teacher loves to ask me about Canada and my family because she wants to go one day. She thinks I am a good teacher and likes the help :) .. Kelsie and I also went with the boys to watch our orphanages soccer team practice. All the boys coach the team, Kelsie and I just like to watch because woweee it sure is a pretty sight. hehe.. they are mostly from the age of 20-24 .. they are pretty good, division 2. Me and kels will def be going to watch their games. Yesterday, Kelsie, Jimmy, Oliver(Obi), Samir(just found out that Sharif's actual name is samir the other day because all the kids call him by his last name) and I went to Accra mall. It is just over an hour trip if the traffic isn't bad in a trotro. We had to go to the circle first which is crazy, there are soo many people and so many shops and stands there Kelsie and I want to go back to buy a bunch of cool stuff from there. There are so many phone places here, it was crazy seeing Accra how different it is from living in a village. You see the rich people and more white people.. it is pretty developed and industrialized. It was so nice to finally get to the mall because we were all sweating buckets on the way there. The mall was air conditioned and they had flushing toilets yaaaaaay!!!! They had nike and an apple store and a some really nice clothing stores, very unique. We basically just looked around and then went for lunch at a "high class restaurant" called Rhapsody's.. I went there in Zambia as well. We all felt so out of place because we looked like gross and plain while everyone there is dressed super fancy like home and some people were having business meetings. I had a cajun chicken wrap with SALAD!! I am set for the rest of the month it was delicious. Kelsie had nachos and then after we got gelato yum. We went to the grocery store there called Shoprite and Kelsie and I bought peanutbutter and crackers and earl grey tea. Then we came back to the circle and there was a huge line up to take the trotro so we took a taxi back.. it took a long time because the traffic was ridiculous. When we got back we could here the kids singing and praying because they do it twice a week at night, its amazing to hear. I think we are going to the beach this weekend to relax so I will keep you updated, I'm running out of time so I better go. Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was awesome!!
